In 2006, 8th generation Piet Schoeman was elected the Western Cape’s “Young Farmer of the Year”. From the small vegetable and ostrich farm his father built up in Schoemans-hoek, his farming activities have expanded rapidly over the last ten years and now includes 5000 hectares of irrigation and grazing fields for his flocks of ostriches, herd of Bonsmara cattle, Dorper sheep and Angora goats. Piet and his wife Laura present informative tours on their farm Buffelsdrift, and this non-commercial, private ostrich farm tour is not to be missed.
