At Berluda, we do our utmost to manage the human use in the biosphere in order that it may yield maximum sustained benefit to present generations, whilst maintaining its ability to meet the needs and aspirations of future generations.
OUR 3 PRINCIPAL AIMS OF CONSERVATION
1. The preservation of essential ecological processes and life-support systems, such as planting 2000 “spekboom” (Portulacaria afra) the waterwise, succulent plant found in South Africa with some of the best carbon sequestration capabilities, generating oxygen.
2. The maintenance of genetic diversity, by reintroduction of pioneer species such as Springbok, Gemsbok, Cape Eland.
3. The sustainable use of species and ecosystems (managing the balance between animals and plant species in a controlled environment). There are currently 407 Recorded bird species in the Karoo and 294 considered typical to the region, such as Korhaan, Blue crane, Kori bustard and more.
