Leon

Allow us to introduce Leon Botha. He was privileged enough to grow up in the Little Karoo town of Oudtshoorn, renowned to be the ostrich capital of the world. Since he could remember, his passion and interests have been animals and wildlife. After school, he started working at a local game lodge and gained a lot of knowledge about nature, especially the indigenous fauna and flora. He then moved on to work on an ostrich farm, and become passionate about these unique flightless birds. He awaits to accompany you on an exciting ostrich farm tour, where he gets to share first-hand farming experience and valuable information that he has gathered over the years.

A young city and guilds accredited chef, hailing from the green valleys of the Eastern Cape, trained in classical French cuisine at the Alfresco International School of Food and Wine, joined Berluda in June 2016 with a great passion for food and a modern take in the culinary industry.

Rachel Pretorius grew up in the valley of Schoemanshoek. She joined the Berluda team about 10 years ago, after being trained as chef and kitchen assistant by mother Rosie Schoeman. Apart from helping with the preservation and bottling of the annual apricot jam, she also bakes our famous homemade rusks daily. She is also notorious for her springbok pies and slow-roasted leg of Karoo lamb. Rachel now lives in Oudtshoorn with her husband and 3 children and travels daily to Berluda.
